Speedway is the story of what happens in post-war Atlanta, Daytona, and a handful of smaller southern towns when moonshine and the automobile collide.
This series is a drama about the struggle, perseverance, and eventual rise of the American South through the Great Depression, World War II and the prosperity that followed. It is a story about the people and places of Atlanta, Daytona, Dawsonville and Macon and how they turned to the only thing they had left to survive — the automobile.
Plainly, Speedway is the tale of a family of Southern farmers struggling to survive the agricultural downturn of the 1930’s in northern Georgia. More over it centers on their son, Coy Locke, a rebellious youth who turns the family toward producing illegal liquor and in turn sets them on a path directly into the foundation of the largest spectator sport in the country, stock-car racing.
